When Keeping It Real Goes Right

Recently I came accross this photo and caption...please read before I give my synopsis:

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.

They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.

They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?

They would have no sex life and could not bear children.

Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.

And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.

We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.

Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?! "

(The girl on the picture is French model Tara Lynn)

So what is the problem with this post?....There is a huge problem with this post???  I can't STAND shit like this as a personal trainer.  CANNOT STAND IT. This post is basically telling every woman in the world that it is ok to be overweight.  IT is NOT ok to be overweight.  Unfortunately fitness is not just about aesthetics and arrogance and "looking better naked"...it is about HEALTH...which is VASTLY neglected in this post.  Not only is health neglected, but the blogger in this post has a certain Nepotism and Narcissism to her counterparts that are in shape.  Guess what......NO ONE made you eat that brownie.  No one force fed you those cupcakes.  You were in control of yourself.  There are "skinny fat" people in this world who are out of shape as well.  Before you become exactly who you are writing about and start being prejudice against people who are doing something about their health and well being besides "eating ice cream" and comparing themselves to dolphins and whales remember that while you were posting this, the girl you were making fun of was fucking running.

I am so damn sick and tired of people legitimizing weight problems with posts like these.  The model....is overweight.  IT SHOWS in her photo.  Is she beautiful? CLEARLY...is she overweight...CLEARLY.....is she out of shape? CLEARLY....

Stop making it about "how one looks" and an "us versus them" for the fit and not fit.  There is one thing and one thing only that we can control (for the most part) in our life and that is what we put into our bodies and and what we do with our bodies.

This model may be beautiful and other people may be skinny, but Father Time is the best long distance runner that has ever lived. It doesn't matter what you look like.  It matters how you manage your health.  Stop getting caught up in numbers/photos/other people/ infomercials/etc as reason to why you can't work out, get healthier, or enjoy life and still be involved in fitness. This is the reason why your kids are fat, your husband eats fried chicken everynight and you look down and cant see your toes.

I know this is probably pissing people off and I will probably lose business over it, but I don't care. The people that are angry about this post are the people that i'm talking to.  So you are welcome for the gutcheck.  NOW GO TO THE GYM AND STOP TRYING TO TURN A POSITIVE OF GETTING INTO SHAPE INTO A NEGATIVE AND STFU!!!!!
